The VW Shop offers for sale an extremely rare 1973 model Volkswagen panel van. This one was originally blue but has been repainted by its previous owner. The front bumper shown in the pictures is a special item allowing the van to be towed behind a motorhome. We will be supplying a standard replacement.
Very few of these panel vans were sold in the USA due to a punitive tax levied by the government in the 1960's on commercial vehicles from Germany. The so-called 'Chicken Tax' was introduced in retalliation for the high level of import duty charged on imported American poultry. This the reason why VW pick-ups and panel vans are found so rarely in the States.
